Videography  (Under Construction)

After spending months preparing for your child's Bar/Bat Mitzvah party, in a mere five hours it is over.  You probably had the time of your life, and it will become an event that you would like to relive throughout the years.  The only true way to be able to accomplish this is by hiring  a videographer to capture all the special moments of this most incredible day in your family's history. With a professional videographer you can capture the twinkle in Grandpa's eye as he recited the Motzi over the challah.  Look at the pure level of excitement in your child's eye as he/she is lifted to the ceiling on their chair during the horah!  Feel your spine tingle again as you reach for your son as he calls you up to help him light the last candles on his Torah Cake.  The only way to truly capture these events for posterity is through the power of video.

Professional Video Services:

Picture
Your professional videographer can offer you a variety of services to help you preserve the moments of your special day or to enhance the party itself. Be sure to use a professional videographer.  You may think that hiring a relative or a high school student will provide you with the same results, but keep in mind that they won't have the same professional equipment, nor the experience that a professional will have in capturing all the essential moments.  You want your guests to have a great time at your party, why burden them with this added responsibility.  You also don't want to ruin a close relationship after the party, when you realize the results they promised you were not fulfilled.  Don't rely on a dj or photographer to get you a videographer, videography is an art unto itself, and you want to make sure you have really hired a professional, especially one show specializes in shooting and editing Bar/Bat Mitzvah videos.

Videotaping the Party:

Picture
You have probably spent well over a year planning for your child's Bar/Bat Mitzvah and in a mere five hours the celebration is over.  As the host and hostess of the party, you probably were distracted from all the events that went on during the day.  You will be able to relive all the excitement from the cocktail hour, to candlelighting, right up through dancing the night away.  Hire a professional videographer who can provide you with an exciting video on DVD.  Make sure they capture the opening events highlighting the theme of the party and end with highlights of the day captured through the eyes of the immediate family.  If you opt for interviews, select only the most important people in your child's life to reflect upon the meaning this simcha plays in your life.  You and your child will one day cherish the segment on video when Grandpa tells his grandchild how proud he is of their accomplishment.

Videotaping the Service or Rehearsal

Picture
Too many families focus their attention only on the party, and yet, it is the achievement of the service which really is the highlight of the day.The first thing you need to find out is whether your temple allows you to videotape the service.  You will not be allowed to bring a still or video camera into the sanctuary on Shabbat in a Conservative or Orthodox temple.  Some reformed temples will allow you to hire a videographer to document the service.  Other reformed temples might have stationary cameras positioned in the ceiling to capture the event.  (Although the quality of these videos leaves much to be desired.) In this case, you might want to ask the videographer who is shooting your party to edit in the highlights of the service into your party DVD.
If your temple doesn't allow any videography, you can ask your videographer to come to temple in the week proceeding the Bar/Bat Mitzvah to videotape the formal photo shoot and a rehearsal for the Mitzvah service.  You will probably be dressed for the photographer's shoot and will want to invite significant members of the family to participate, especially the grandparents.  You can recreate the highlights of the service including: the presentation of the tallit, passing the Torah, all alliyahs of people who are there, your child reading from the Torah, performing his/her Haftorah section, any and all speeches, including the D'Var Torah.  All of this documentation can be either placed on the party DVD or on its own DVD packaged together with the party video.
